LAHORE: Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday sought video clip of Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shehbaz Sharif (CM’s) speech in which he allegedly made a statement for accountability of judges and army officials.
The cou
rt directed the petitioner to come up on April 26 with more arguments on the maintainability of his petition.
Petitioner Syed Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi had sought disqualification of the chief minister for making such statement on International Wo
men’s Day. He claimed that by uttering such words, the CM had tried to dama
ge the repute of national institutions.
He alleged that CM during his speech on the International Wo
men’ Day had asked for accountability of judges and army officials.
Separately, Justice Abid Aziz Sheikh of the Lahore High Court (LHC) Monday ordered the capital city police officer (CCPO) to provide security to participants of the Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation
for holding a function on March 23 to mark the death anniversary of Bhagat Singh at Fawara Chowk, Shadman.
Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Chairman Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi had moved the petition. He said an application was given to the provincial government and police requesting them to provide security for the function but they did not reply.
He had submitted that the Punjab chief secretary; inspector general of police and DIG (Operations) Lahore had been denying protection and security
at public places, which was fundamental right of every citizen. He had requested the court to order respondent authorities to take security measures for the upcoming event.
